Trademark Law of the UAE
How to apply for Trademark protection in the United Arab Emirates
After your application is filed with the UAE Trademark Office, the applicant or their representative will receive a filing number and date as acknowledgment that the application has been received. The trademark office will then review the application and examine its registrability to determine whether the mark complies with local rules, has no grounds for rejection (in terms of deceptiveness or distinctiveness), and ensure that no prior identical or similar trademark has been registered. If the registrar rejects the trademark, they will notify the applicant in writing of the grounds for the decision and the relevant facts. The applicant has the right to contest the registrar’s decision within 30 days from the date of notification before the Complaints Committee at the Trademark Office.
Trademark applications accepted by the registrar are published in the Trademark Official Gazette. A 30-day period is provided for filing an opposition. If no opposition is filed against your application, or if the opposition is unsuccessful, your trademark will be registered upon payment of the registration fee, and the relevant certificate of registration will be issued.

Trademark Opposition procedures in the United Arab Emirates
Any interested party may, within thirty (30) days from the date of publication of a trademark registration application, file a notice of opposition with the registrar. If an opposition is filed, the applicant must submit a counterstatement within 30 days of being notified by the Trademark Office. If the applicant fails to do so, the application will be considered abandoned. If the applicant submits a counterstatement, the Opposition Committee will provide a copy to the parties who filed the notice of opposition. After hearing from the parties, if necessary, and reviewing the evidence, the committee will decide whether and under what conditions registration may proceed.
